About the SASSA Old Age Grant
The Old Age Grant (previously called the old age pension) is a monthly payment from the South African government to help older people cover their living costs.
Who Qualifies?
- South African citizens, permanent residents, or refugees aged 60 or older
- Must live in South Africa
- Not receiving another social grant for yourself
- Not being cared for in a state institution
- Income under R86,280 per year (single) or R172,560 (married)
- Assets less than R1,227,600 (single) or R2,455,200 (married)
How Much is the Old Age Grant?
As of 2025:
- People aged 60–74 years: R2,310 per month
- People aged 75 years and older: R2,330 per month
